A trip around the world in 107 photos: the most visual proposal of the Convent of Sant Diego

Alaior will host the “East to West” project between July 16 and September 1, by photographers specializing in documentary and travel photography Christelle Enquist and Jorge Delgado-Ureña.

The multi-purpose rooms I and II of the Convent of Sant Diego d’Alaior will host from next July 16 and until September 1 the exhibition “East to West”, by documentary photographers Christelle Enquist and Jorge Delgado-Ureña . The exhibition consists of 107 photographs, both in color and black and white, and is the work of seven years traveling the world.

“It’s like traveling and discovering the world through photography, the exhibition is set up as if you’re going from east to west through India, Nepal, Turkey, Iraq, Morocco, Spain, specifically Menorca , Cuba and the United States”, says Christelle Enquist, born in Singapore, of a Swedish father and Menorcan mother.

“East to West” is a trip around the world through photography and the particular look of the couple formed by Christelle Enquist and Jorge Delgado-Ureña, two photographers specialized in documentary and travel photography who in 2016 opened their own company, The Raw Society, focused on educational issues, so they act as mentors for more than 250 photographers around the world.

With this exhibition, which opens on July 16, at 7 p.m., it will be the first time that the entirety of the “East to West” project is exhibited, choosing for its premiere the island where they have resided since three years One hour after the opening, there will be a discussion in the chill out of LÔAC with the participation of the two photographers and the attending public.

Menorca

The photographs are grouped by country, each one has its coordinates and by scanning them you can see exactly where they were taken with Google Maps. The sizes of the photographs are from 20×30 cm, which is a standard size, up to 70×90 cm.

Precisely, the photographs corresponding to Spain were taken in Menorca, “there are photographs that are a little more abstract, one is of Binibèquer Vell, but it is not the typical one, there are also a few that appeared in a magazine about the festivities of Sant Joan de Ciutadella, because we made a whole documentary about Sant Joan from the moment when the knights register until the last day, there is also Holy Week, they are quite varied”, says Enquist who, on the other hand, he points out that they are two photographers who normally use color, but that “in some cases countries have called us to work in black and white and we wanted to leave it that way. It is to bring photography a little closer to the whole world, so that it is not something that is inaccessible and that everyone can enjoy it a little as we enjoy it and also understand the work of the documentary or travel photographer”.

Christelle Enquist has published her photographs in “National Geographic España” and “Women Street Photographers”, having exhibited in Australia, Belgium, the United States and Nepal, while Jorge Delgado-Ureña in 2020 documented the covid-19 pandemic, with the decontamination work of the Spanish Army, commissioned by National    Geographic and has published in numerous national and international magazines, in addition to having exhibited in Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Spain and Nepal.
