Intention

This photography project dives into the secret life of color—how different cultures load it with meaning, how it sneaks into our emotions, and why once you notice it, you can’t stop seeing the world differently.

If Freud steps carefully around color’s emotions, this project runs straight toward them chasing bold hues across cultures to see how they flirt with feeling, tell stories, and slip meaning into everyday life. From joy to grief to power plays, color proves it’s doing far more than decorating the world. Because color is a mischievous little language, it shapes how we feel, but culture decides what it *means*—turning the same hue into celebration here, mourning there, or rebellion somewhere else entirely. Once you understand that, you start seeing color not just as an afterthought of beauty, but as a storytelling tool packed with history, emotion, and human connection.

Connection
My photography already speaks fluently in bold, saturated color, using it as a narrative force to shape mood, emotion, and meaning rather than mere aesthetics. Because color is central to how I see and construct stories, I’m uniquely positioned to explore its cultural power—not as an observer on the sidelines, but as someone who works inside its emotional language every day. (Plus, I studied this concept for three semesters in college.)

Timeline
An estimated three and a half months are needed to explore every band of the rainbow, using Sir Isaac Newton’s Seven-Color Model from the 17th century. I will, however, do the work in the 21st century.
