I’m an Italian photographer based in London, documenting resilience, loss, and the human experience for over 30 years. I began my career in 1987 with The Sunday Telegraph and The Independent and gained recognition in 1989 for my coverage of the Tiananmen Square protests, earning the British Press Photographer of the Year award.

My 1994 book, Children of Bombay, was hailed as one of the decade’s most significant photography works. That same year, I documented Ayrton Senna’s fatal race at Imola, with my images featured in L’Ultimo Ayrton. I have since covered major events, including the Kobe earthquake, the Northern Ireland conflict, the Iraq War, and the Indian Ocean tsunami. My recent project, Lost Family Portraits, reached over 700 million viewers, highlighting the impact of war on families.

My work has earned the W. Eugene Smith Award, the Visa d’Or, and two World Press Photo Awards. Beyond photography, I mentor emerging photographers, helping them develop their visual voice. For me, photography is more than a profession—it’s a way to connect, document, and share untold stories.
