Byzantium, Constantinople, Istanbul. It’s the only city to have been the capital of two great empires (Greek and Roman) and is unique in that it straddles the continents of Europe and Asia making it quite literally the meeting place of east and west. It’s an urban cultural center rich with the incandescence of its past. A melting pot of old and new from its minarets and contemporary art galleries, to the bazaars and trendy cafés, traditional crafts and designer clothing, not to forget the Hammams and night clubs…
But what is most appealing about the city are its people who have an infectious love of life and generosity of spirit. It’s no wonder that Istanbul has enthralled Alex Webb since 1998, and it’s right here in this vibrant city where we will be teaching you how to take your street and storytelling skills to the next level!

This will be a hands-on workshop in which all participants will be personally guided by Jorge Delgado-Ureña along with support from Christelle Enquist. You will be expected to fully immerse yourself, push your boundaries and rise up to the challenges you are given over the 7-days.
The workshop will begin going through each participant’s photographic goals. Jorge will then discuss the images needed and what to look for to create a cohesive narrative and powerful body of work in any given situation.
Most of the workshop will be spent out on the streets, however, time will be set aside each day for short theory sessions/critiques and discussion about the work produced.
From the second day of the workshop, participants will also be introduced to magazine-making and the different ways to sequence a magazine.
The last day will be spent doing final edits and sequencing for your magazine and upon completion, each participant will present their magazine to the rest of the group.
The workshop will begin with a revision of your portfolio with the aim of evaluating your level and in order to discuss your objectives during your stay in Istanbul.
The fundamentals of the different kinds of light and their quality. We’ll experiment shooting at different hours of the day in order to show you how to take advantage of light conditions regardless the time of day you decide to go out to take photographs.
We’ll talk about the different rules and guidelines of composition, from the most classic to the most modern, and how these affect the way in which you are able to express yourself through your photography.
How to create a visual line in your stories and overall work whilst developing your own style. This will be one of the main objectives during the workshop and assignments will be given to each participant to develop your storytelling technique.
Organisation and management of your projects.
How to make the most of your raw files with Lightroom and Photoshop.
Revision and constructive criticism both in group and individually.
