Ukraine's War-Time Renaissance
This feature delves into Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to rebuild amidst the current conflict, focusing on the resilience and determination of its people. This war is unique in that reconstruction efforts are unfolding even as the conflict rages, offering a rare glimpse into how nations adapt and persevere in real-time. Through an anthropological approach to discovering personal narratives and public and private activity, the piece will explore:
- Past: A reflection on pre-war Ukraine, highlighting the nation’s cultural richness and economic potential
- Present: An examination of the war’s impact on daily life, including the challenges faced by civilians and the adaptive strategies they’ve employed
- Future: Insights into Ukraine’s reconstruction plans, encompassing foreign direct investment, government initiatives, and international support generally
The narrative will explore individual stories with broader geopolitical themes such as shifting Western alliances, nationalism in the EU, and Russia’s attempts to influence the West.
About the budget
Each photographer determines their own budget, and if the objective minimum amount is reached, the photographer receives it in its totality.
Erics’s budget is $8000 which includes photographer fees, costs of production and post-production.
He will produce the story for Issue IV if at least 50% ($4000) of the funds are raised by the 20th of April 2025.
If this fundraising goal is not met, all donations will be returned to funders.
