Mississippi Mighty Roots Festival
Documenting Music, Culture & Heritage
11 - 17 September 2024 | Stovall, MS
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

The Mississippi Delta is one of the most extraordinary places in the world. A magical area which has produced an outpouring of art and music that has impacted not only Mississippi, but the entire world. It's been home to Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker, Ike Turner and Sam Cooke, Tennessee Williams and William Faulkner, Eudora Welty and John Grisham.

The Mighty Roots Festival, which takes place every year in the very place where Muddy Waters lived, celebrates, for two full days, the continued talent that pours out of this small and often overlooked corner of the US, in a setting that is truly unbeatable.

During this workshop participants will be documenting the surroundings of the festival (Stovall & Clarksdale), the preparations, the festival itself, and will also have exclusive access to some of the performers to develop their stories. Additionally with the guidance of your mentors, participants will learn about the power of storytelling, hone their photographic skills, and create their very magazine so that not only will they improve their photographic skills, but also put their editing and sequencing skills to the test!

This workshop is open to both amateur and professional photographers and will be mentored individually according to their skill levels.
