It’s where it all started. Not just for us, but for master photographers like Steve McCurry and Tino Soriano as well, and if there’s one thing that we all have in common, it’s that Nepal holds a very special place in our hearts.
From the moment you set foot in the chaos of Kathamndu’s airport, you will be grasped by a feeling you’ve never felt before: A mixture of curiosity, confusion, excitement, and hurry, hurry to start your photographic adventure.
During the course of this workshop, participants will be working towards building a visual narrative that will culminate in a magazine. Concepts covered throughout the workshop include composition, micro composition, layering, use of light, colour theory, approaching subjects, developing a visual narrative, editing (selecting your images) and sequencing. In addition to this and thanks to our small group sizes, we always adapt to the specific needs of our participants.
Jorge Delgado-Ureña & Christelle Enquist
Renowned Spanish photographers, resident mentors and co-founders of The Raw Society, Jorge Delgado-Ureña and Christelle Enquist have taught dozens of photography workshops all over the world.
Jorge has over 15 years of experience in photography and an innate ability for teaching. He’s been published in several local and international magazines, including National Geographic, Ijsberg Magazine, La Vanguardia, Publico, Fisheye Magazine to name a few. His photographs have also been exhibited in El Colegio de Periodistas and Lomography Embassy in Barcelona, Lensculture Berlin 2017, The Independent Photographer Berlin 2018 and he is currently working on the publication of two books of his photography from Cuba and Morocco.
Jorge will help guide students on creating complex layered compositions, toning and processing your images, and telling a story through your photography.
Christelle’s work has been exhibited in Australia, USA, Belgium and Nepal and she is featured in the "Woman Street Photographers" book published by Penguin Random House in March 2021. An expert in colour theory, Christelle will help guide students on the power of color in photography, as well as teach them foundational skills like sequencing and editing your images.

Day 1: Introduction to Nepal
Transfer to the hotel and introduction to this exquisite country.
Day 2: The Streets of Kathmandu
Meandering through narrow streets of Kathmandu is how we begin our adventure. It’s the perfect opportunity to get a feel of the place, observe and start capturing this fascinating country and its people.
Day 3: Life in a Buddhist Monastery
In the morning we head to the Karma Lekshey Ling monastery, a very special place in which the Rinpoche there is a personal friend of ours. Here we will have the chance to experience first-hand what life is like in a Buddhist monastery.
Walking in circles can be frustrating, unless it is around one of the largest stupas in the world that is. Boudhanath not only amazes due to its size, but also because of the life that revolves around it. It is here where we will spend the afternoon, capturing the life of pilgrims and local devotees of a religion that stems from Hinduism, and yet in many ways is completely different.
Day 4 - 5: Markets
The markets of Kathmandu are a sight to be seen! Early in the morning when the city appears to be asleep, the old center transforms into a vibrant fruit and vegetable market with make-shift stalls filling every nook and cranny of the streets.
The second market, one in which street vendors from all of the city gather to collect the fresh goods that they will later sell from the back of their bicycles and carts, is perhaps one of the largest of Nepal. A cacophony of sounds, colours and smells that make it hard to focus on any one thing, but focus we will!
Day 6: UNESCO World Heritage Site
Today we visit Pashupatinath, the most important Hindu temple in Nepal In this place of contrasts, where death is mourned and life is celebrated, we challenge you to try and capture the two opposing worlds.
Day 7 - 8: The other Kingdoms
In the late 1400’s under the Malla Dynasty, the Kathmandu Valley was split into 4 kingdoms: Bhaktapur, Kantipur (now Kathmandu), Banepa and Lalitpur.
Lalitpur, also known as Patan boasts spectacular craftsmanship by skilled artisans and remains unparalleled in its display of Newari architecture. Here is where we will spend the day, getting a better understanding of the Newar culture, exploring hidden golden temples, perhaps the sighting of a living goddess and building your stories of this complex country.
The second Kingdom we'll be exploring is Bhaktapur, which has the best preserved Palace courtyards and old city center in Nepal, and is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for its rich culture, temples, and wood, metal and stone artwork. The town is famous for special type of curd called "Ju Ju dhau". It is experienced by the curd makers that the taste of curd prepared in this location cannot be found elsewhere all over Nepal.
Day 9-10: Where it all comes together
The last few days in Kathmandu will de dedicated to bringing your visual stories together. Over the course of the week and with our guidance, you’ll have created an edit of your work and now comes the time to narrow it down, sequence it and create your very own magazine.
