A collaborative photobook by The Raw Society members, focused on ideas of “home”. While the theme is not at all new to photography – the British Journal of Photography and Aperture have both published innumerable authorial photo essays around the idea of Home – what distinguishes this edition is the collective and inclusive nature of it, out of which a cohesive whole was formed from the gaze of multiple photographs across the globe. 133 photographs were submitted by 45 members, ranging from beginner photographers to professionals, each with a story (sometimes short, others long and elaborate) that spoke to elements of the following prompt:
“Home is a body of images that gives us proof or illusion of stability. It’s the topography of intimacy. It’s the emotional and physical cocoon that promises shelter. It’s a communal, universal aspect that bids togetherness and belonging. Home is an emotional space, a tethered sense of individual or group identity that makes us feel at ease with the world”.
