Sant Joan
19 - 26 June 2024

It’s the 25th of June. 6 in the morning. The dust finally settles, and like zombies, people make their way home after having celebrated Sant Joan (Saint John), some for six days straight. For many people of Ciutadella, today is the day the calendar is set to zero and the countdown for next year’s Sant Joan begins.

These celebrations on the small island of Menorca, Spain, are one of a kind. Sculpted over the ages (more than 700 years) by invasions and conquests, religion and politics, the fiestas of Sant Joan are deeply rooted in history but more importantly, have become a big part of the local identity.

During this workshop, participants will be documenting and delving deep into these incredible fiestas, experiencing them in a way that most visitors never will thanks to the access and relationships that your mentors have built over the years.

NOTE: If you choose to pay the deposit, we kindly remind you that payment of the balance is due 30 days before our workshop begins.

This will be a hands-on workshop in which all participants will be personally guided by Jorge Delgado-Ureña along and Christelle Enquist. You will be expected to fully immerse yourself, push your boundaries and rise up to the challenges you are given over the 7-days.

The workshop will begin going through each participant’s photographic goals. Jorge will then discuss the images needed and what to look for to create a cohesive narrative and powerful body of work in any given situation.
Most of the workshop will be spent out on the streets, however, time will be set aside each day for short theory sessions/critiques and discussion about the work produced.

From the second day of the workshop, participants will also be introduced to magazine-making and the different ways to sequence a magazine.

The last day will be spent doing final edits and sequencing for your magazine and upon completion, each participant will present their magazine to the rest of the group.
